TailwindForm
tailwind_form is a Rails form builder to easily implement custom, consistent TailwindCSS forms into your Rails app. It provides forms with preset form__group, form__label, form__inputGroup, and form__input css classes that you customize using Tailwind classes and @apply tag in SCSS.
This gem is assuming you have TailwindCSS and TailwindCSS Custom Forms already installed on your rails application.
Benefits of tailwind_form
- Makes implementing forms much more simple, thus slimming your
.erbfiles - Makes forms more consistent across your entire website by forcing extraction of form classes
- Reduces errors
- Makes
.erbforms much more readable
Requirements
Currently, tailwind_form is only tested with
- Rails 6.0.1
- Tailwind 1.4.6
Installation
Add this line to your application's Gemfile:
gem 'tailwind_form'
And then execute:
$ bundle install
Or install it yourself as:
$ gem install tailwind_form
Our gem depends on having preset form classes set in your local scss directory. A sample implementation is as follows:
.form__group {
@apply my-2;
}
.form__label {
@apply block text-sm font-medium text-gray-700;
}
.form__inputGroup {
@apply mt-1 rounded-md shadow-sm;
}
.form__input {
@apply form-input block w-full;
@screen sm {
@apply text-sm leading-tight;
}
}
Usage
Here is an example of the form:
<%= tailwind_form_with model: Lead.new, class: "space-y-6" do |f| %>
<%= f.form_group :name %>
<%= f.form_group :email %>
<% end %>
Which generates the following form:
<form class="space-y-6" action="/leads" accept-charset="UTF-8" data-remote="true" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="authenticity_token" value="S3wp;" />
<div class="form__group">
<label class="form__label" for="lead_name">Name</label>
<div class="form__inputGroup">
<input class="form__input" type="text" name="lead[name]" id="lead_name" />
</div>
</div>
<div class="form__group">
<label class="form__label" for="lead_email">Email</label>
<div class="form__inputGroup">
<input class="form__input" type="text" name="lead[email]" id="lead_email" />
</div>
</div>
</form>
