Installation

See the Foreman manual. foreman-installer support is available.

Red Hat, CentOS, Scientific Linux (rpm)

Set up the repo as explained in the link above, then run

# yum install tfm-rubygem-foreman_azure

Fedora (rpm)

Set up the repo as explained in the link above, then run

# yum install rubygem-foreman_azure

Debian, Ubuntu (deb)

Set up the repo as explained in the link above, then run

# apt-get install ruby-foreman-azure

Bundle (gem)

Add the following to bundler.d/Gemfile.local.rb in your Foreman installation directory (/usr/share/foreman by default)

$ gem 'foreman_azure'

Then run bundle install from the same directory

Usage

Same as any other compute resource, provide your credentials:

Then associate your Foreman operating system with an image on Azure:

And you'll be able to create hosts in Azure with that image and many other options, via Foreman. This will allow you to proactively manage your hosts DHCP/DNS, configuration management, parameters, run scripts via remote execution and more!

Configuration

When you create the compute resource, you need to provide your subscription ID, a path to the .pem certificate, and a URL to your Azure API. Read below how to create the certificate needed.

Certificate creation

The certificate used must be generated by the user. OpenSSL can be used to create the management certificates. Two certificates are needed: a .cer file, which is uploaded to Azure, and a .pem file, which is stored locally.

To create the .pem file, execute the following command:

openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:1024 -keyout /etc/foreman/azure.pem -out /etc/foreman/azure.pem

To create the .cer file, execute the following command:

openssl x509 -inform pem -in /etc/foreman/azure.pem -outform der -out /etc/foreman/azure.cer

After creating these files, the .cer file will need to be uploaded to Azure via the "Upload a Management Certificate" action of the "Management Certificates" tab within the "Settings" section of the classic management portal. Read how to upload the certificate on the Azure official documentation.
