Chromatic - Version 0.6.1

Chromatic is a Ruby String class extension. Adds methods to set text color, background color, and text effects on ruby console, irb, and command line output, using ANSI escape sequences.

Chromatic is an updated fork of the colorize gem. The original colorize gem became stale and it appear that the developer has abandoned the project.

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'chromatic'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install chromatic

To easily test if the gem is installed properly, type the following into the commandline:

$ ruby -rubygems -e 'require "chromatic"; puts "Fibonacci Sequence - Brain Game".blue.on_red.blink'

Usage

puts "This is blue".colorize( :blue )
puts "This is light blue".colorize( :light_blue )
puts "This is also blue".colorize( :color => :blue )
puts "This is light blue with red background".colorize( :color => :light_blue, :background => :red )
puts "This is light blue with red background".colorize( :light_blue ).colorize( :background => :red )
puts "This is blue text on red".blue.on_red
puts "This is red on blue".colorize( :red ).on_blue
puts "This is red on blue and underline".colorize( :red ).on_blue.underline
puts "This is blue text on red".blue.on_red.blink
puts "This is uncolorized".blue.on_red.uncolorize

Versioning

Chromatic will start at version 0.6.0 as the last release of colorize was 0.5.8.
