Do some browser detection with Ruby. Includes ActionController integration.
This is just a namespaced fork of github.com/fnando/browser. I may add features that may not be sent upstream due to issues maintaining the two.
gem install brwsr
require "rubygems" require "brwsr" brwsr = ::.(:ua => "some string", :accept_language => "en-us") brwsr.name # readable brwsr name brwsr.safari? brwsr.opera? brwsr.chrome? brwsr.mobile? brwsr.firefox? brwsr.ie? brwsr.ie6? # this goes up to 10 brwsr.capable? # supports some CSS 3 brwsr.platform # return :mac, :windows, :linux or :other brwsr.mac? brwsr.windows? brwsr.linux? brwsr. # an array with several attributes brwsr.to_s # the meta info joined by space
See the tests for more examples.
Just add it to the Gemfile or `environment.rb`, depending of your Rails version.
gem "brwsr" #=> Rails 3 config.gem "brwsr" #=> Rails 2
This adds a helper method called `brwsr`, that inspects your current user agent.
<% if brwsr.ie6? %> <p class="disclaimer">You're running an older IE version. Please update it!</p> <% end %>
